On May 3, Jacoby Mason, 33, was arrested for vehicular homicide following a tragic incident involving a pedestrian. The incident, which occurred at 1705 S Talton St (Abraham’s Food Mart), resulted in the death of Glennis Oliver, who was struck by a vehicle and trapped underneath his own car.
Officer Clingan, who responded to the scene, found Oliver pinned beneath his vehicle after being hit by the suspect vehicle, which had crashed into a building. Dequarius Crawford, identified as the passenger in the suspect vehicle, provided a description of the driver, described as a black male in a white shirt and black shorts, who had fled the scene on foot.
After doing everything he could to ensure Oliver’s safety, Officer Clingan located a man fitting the description provided by Crawford, later identified as Jacoby Mason, in the parking lot of Longspring Community Outreach Ministry’s parking lot. Mason exhibited signs of impairment, including a strong odor of alcohol, bloodshot eyes, and swaying balance. He was detained and transported back to the scene, where Crawford positively identified him as the driver.
Mason was then arrested and transported to the Minden Police Department for further testing. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST’s) indicated signs of impairment, and a chemical test revealed a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of 0.183%. Tragically, Glennis Oliver was pronounced dead at Minden Medical Center.
Mason faces multiple charges, including vehicular homicide, DWI 1st, hit and run, and driving under suspension (DUS). He also had a bench warrant for driving under suspension.
The investigation is ongoing, with video footage of the crash secured from Abraham’s Food Mart.
