Virginia M. Franklin

A vigil service will be at 7 p.m., Monday, June 15, 2015, for Virginia M. Franklin at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shreveport. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Minden. Burial will follow at Bistineau Church Cemetery in Heflin. Miss Virginia entered into rest on June 12, 2015. She was born in Ogden, Arkansas on Oct. 15, 1931. She was a graduate of DeRidder High School. After high school graduation, she moved to Minden with her family where she took a position with the telephone company. She later worked for the Chamber of Commerce in Minden and the Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant. In 1976, she was hired as the Deputy Registrar of Voters for Webster Parish. Miss Virginia was appointed Registrar of Voters in August of 1985 and served in that position until she retired in 2003.

Although Miss Virginia had a long and varied business career, she always saw the rearing of her three children as her primary and most important responsibility. She was a wonderful mother to her children and worked very hard at teaching them about God and His unconditional love.

She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Randy J. Franklin of Heflin.

She is survived by her sister, Rosemary O’Quinn of Texas; two brothers, James McCuller and wife Sandra and Edward McCuller and wife Carol both of Tennessee; two children, son, Father Mark Franklin of Shreveport and daughter, Eileen Franklin and husband Norman of Shreveport; daughter-in-law, Tracie Franklin of Heflin; three grandchildren, James Mark and wife Hyuna of New Orleans, Sydney and husband Justin of New York, New York and Joseph Brantly of Heflin; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials to be made to First Baptist Church of Minden building fund.
