Andrew S. Ritchie, 81, died March 10, 2015, in Bellingham, Washington. He was born in Mound in 1934, as the youngest of seven sons, to Mildred Collins Ritchie and Clinton McCay Ritchie. He spent his growing up years in Minden, graduating from Minden High School in 1952.
He attended Louisiana Tech University, majoring in accounting and graduated in 1956. He joined the US Air Force in 1957 as a second lieutenant and made a career of the US Air Force, retiring in 1979.
Andrew met Shelley Sturdy while stationed at Goose Bay AFB in Labrador and they married in 1959 in Denver, Colorado. Among the places he was stationed were North Carolina; Lansing, Michigan, where he received his MBA from Michigan State; Guam; and Japan. His three children are Ian (Marcia Rose) of Atlanta, Georgia, Evan (Julia Prestwich) of Bellingham, Washington and Kathryn (Todd Gierke) of Chicago, Illinois. There are six grandchildren, Aidan and Marja, Allegra and Emma, Andrew and Kate.
After retiring from the Air Force, the Ritchies taught in Japan for 14 years, in China for three years, and in Kentucky for two years. Andrew returned to a university in 1983 and received a teaching degree.
He had a life-long love of sports, playing tennis well into his 70s.
Andrew died peacefully at home under the care of family and hospice. His pastor brother-in-law conducted an intimate memorial service in the home of his son, Evan.
