Mayor lauds St. Jude Auction

The City of Minden is getting a new dump truck. Council members voted unanimously Monday night to accept the lowest bid for a 14-yard dump truck. Mayor Tommy Davis said the lowest amount bid for the dump truck, $107,733.20, was less than the amount budgeted for the expenditure. “We are thankful for that,” he said.

The dump truck was but one piece of heavy equipment on the council agenda, as it approved the advertising for bids for an aerial bucket truck. “This is for line crew. It should last us 10 – 15 years,” Davis said.

Davis took an opportunity at the end of the council meeting to share his praise for the Minden St. Jude Auction which raised more than $1.5 million for the children’s hospital this past weekend.

“What do you say about Minden as far as St. Jude is concerned?,” Davis asked. “If you just come up here and witness what goes on from Thursday to Sunday, and you realize they are all volunteers, it makes me proud.”
