A community-wide Live Nativity walking tour will take place Saturday, December 20, from 6 to 8 PM in Minden’s downtown historic district, bringing together local churches, civic groups and volunteers to present the Christmas story through a multi-location experience.
The free event, titled “O Come All Ye Faithful: A Community-Wide Live Nativity Experience,” will begin at 1111 Broadway St. and conclude at First Methodist Church Minden. Participants will follow a marked route with the help of signs and volunteers stationed throughout the area.
The tour route will begin at 1111 Broadway St., continue to St. John’s Episcopal Church, proceed along Lewisville Road past Minden Presbyterian Church and conclude at First Methodist Church Minden. Organizers estimate the walking tour will take approximately 30 to 45 minutes to complete. Churches along the route will be open for viewing and rest breaks, and golf carts will be available for guests with mobility challenges or handicaps.
The event will feature costumed characters, live animals, scenes from the New Testament Gospels, a shepherds’ field setting and Christmas music performed by a community choir. The presentation is designed as a walking tour that transforms the streets of Minden’s historic district into scenes representing Bethlehem.
Organizer Sarah Overall said choir participants are welcome, with practice scheduled for Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at First Methodist Church Minden.
Participating groups include Minden Main Street, Visit Webster, Minden Mayor Nick Cox, Minden Police Chief Jared McIver, Webster Parish Sheriff Jason Parker, Assessor Denise Edwards, Emmanuel Baptist Church, First Methodist Church Minden, Lakeview United Methodist Church, Liberty Christian Ministries International, Living Word Minden, Minden High School Choral Group, Minden Presbyterian Church, Pearls of Purpose, St. John’s Episcopal Church and St. Paul Catholic Church.
The event is open to the public. More information is available through the Facebook event hosted by First Methodist Church Minden.
