Construction is underway on two new hangars at Minden Airport following a $585,000 federal grant awarded last year.
Airport Manager Molly Fowler said crews have begun work on the project and recently completed the concrete slab for the buildings.
“We have begun construction,” Fowler said. “They have laid the slab for the buildings and we anticipate the buildings arriving the first week of May.”

The project is funded through a Federal Aviation Administration grant announced by U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The funding will support construction of a 3,600-square-foot sponsor-owned hangar designed to increase aircraft storage capacity and generate additional revenue for the airport.
City officials previously said the additional hangars are intended to help the airport move toward self-sustainability while supporting local aviation activity and economic growth.
Fowler has said all 30 existing hangars at the airport are fully occupied, with a waiting list of more than 20 people seeking space. The new hangars are expected to help accommodate that demand and contribute to increased revenue and fuel sales.
