Pedestrian killed while retrieving tire
Two fatal crashes have claimed the live of two people in Bienville Parish Thursday, according to Louisiana State Police Troop G.
Around 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening, Troop G responded to a one-vehicle rollover crash on I-20, about 1.6 miles east of LA 151, near Arcadia, that claimed the life of a Ruston man.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2004 Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by 23-year-old Mejia Perez Genaro was traveling eastbound on I-20 when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle ran off the road and overturned, Troop G said.
Genaro was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bienville Parish Coroner’s Office. No one else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
Earlier in the day, a pedestrian was also killed on I-20. Around 5:30 p.m., Troop G responded to a one-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on I-20, about 1 mile east of LA 151 near Arcadia, that claimed the life of a North Carolina man.
The preliminary investigation revealed 36-year-old Christopher Cecil Suttle of Asheville, North Carolina was struck by a 2017 Dodge Ram pick-up as he rolled a tire across the interstate that he had retrieved from the median. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bienville Parish Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the pick-up, Stephen Louis Goodman of Haughton, Louisiana, was not injured and showed no signs of impairment.
A toxicology sample was obtained from the deceased for analysis and the crash remains under investigation. The weather at the time of the crash was clear.
