A Bossier City woman was arrested July 31 on a charge of animal cruelty after officers responded to an animal welfare call at a Minden recreational center.
Minden police were dispatched to the facility after a report of a dog left in a white Dodge Challenger. Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle with a gray poodle inside. The car was turned off, and the windows were slightly cracked. The dog was found in the backseat barking and panting due to the heat.
Officers reported the outside temperature in Minden was 95 degrees at the time, with an extreme heat warning in effect.
The vehicle’s driver, identified as 28-year-old Shardenai Shaw of Bossier City, was found inside the recreation center working out. Shaw told officers she had only been inside the facility for a short period before they arrived.
The dog was released to Shaw’s sister, and Shaw was arrested on a charge of animal cruelty. She was booked at the Minden Police Department.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
