Driver arrested on third-offense DWI after traffic stop in Minden

by Minden Press-Herald

A Minden man was arrested Thursday, June 11, on a third-offense driving while intoxicated charge after a traffic stop revealed multiple traffic violations and a blood alcohol concentration more than three times the legal limit, according to a Minden Police Department report.

Police said an officer observed Austin Todd, 30, driving on Gladney Street while traveling left of center and not wearing a seat belt. The officer also determined the vehicle was uninsured and that Todd’s driver’s license had been canceled.

A traffic stop was conducted in the 100 block of East Todd Street.

According to the report, Todd used his truck for balance as he exited the vehicle and walked toward the officer. Police also noted that his eyes were red and glossy, his speech was slurred, and a strong odor of alcohol was coming from his breath.

Officers further reported finding two open containers of vodka inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

Todd refused to participate in standardized field sobriety tests, according to police. However, he agreed to provide a breath sample on the Intoxilyzer 9000. The test reportedly registered a blood alcohol concentration of 0.262%, more than three times Louisiana’s legal limit of 0.08%.

During the investigation, officers also discovered Todd had an active Minden Police Department bench warrant for failure to appear for arraignment on a domestic abuse battery charge.

Police records showed Todd had previous DWI arrests in Webster Parish in February 2019 and in Bossier Parish in April 2024.

Todd was arrested and charged with third-offense driving while intoxicated, driving left of center, no seat belt, driving with a canceled license, no insurance, open container, and the outstanding bench warrant.

All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
