While the rest of the Louisiana football world waits another month, Glenbrook stayed on MAIS schedule and kicked off their 2020 season on Friday night.
Under new head coach David Feaster, the Apaches picked up where they left off last season, with a dizzying display of offense en route to a 48-0 road win over Hillcrest on Friday night.
“I always tell my teams that if you want to blow somebody out, then you do it with defense and special teams,” Feaster said. “That was the theme this week as our defense played lights out.
The Apaches got multiple scores from special teams alone and were able to play younger guys for much of the blowout.
“The good news is that the young guys got to play and they played well,” Feaster said. “The bad news is that our older guys didn’t really get the conditioning that we were planning on.”
Still, Feaster said the Apaches got off to the start they wanted.
Maddox Mandino returned two punts for touchdowns and Jackson Powell scored two as well (one passing and one rushing). DJ Carter and Jonathan Parkerson added rushing touchdowns of their own.
They will need that same form this week as a very good Parkers Chapel team heads to Minden on Friday.
“We will get all the conditioning we wanted this week against a very good Parkers Chapel team from Arkansas.”
Glenbrook improves to 1-0 this season.
