Growing Valley Baptist Church celebrates Annual Black History Month

The Growing Valley Baptist church congregation is proud of this year’s keynote  speaker, Dr. Connie Walton. Dr. Walton serves as Grambling State University’s  Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost. Dr. Walton grew up in the  Growing Valley community and was an active member of the Growing Valley  Baptist Church where she served in many capacities. Her parents are the late Floyd  Walton and Mary Walton who is still an active member of the Growing Valley  Baptist Church.  

In December of 2019 after a national search, Grambling State University appointed  Dr. Walton as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. Dr. Walton is  committed to the progress of students. She mentors and challenges students to set  goals and attain success. Dr. Walton has served in many entities at Grambling  State University and among some are her assistance with the University  accreditation process through Southern Association of Colleges and Schools  Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), and she also served as Director of  Sponsored Programs. 

Dr. Walton attended school in Minden and graduated from Minden High School.  Dr. Walton earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Southern  Mississippi. She is a co-inventor on two U.S. Patents and one German Paten  Application. She also has served as principal investigator on grant funded projects  received from NASA, NSF, and the U.S. Department of Education. Her research  includes the synthesis of biodegradable polymers and the characterization of their  properties. 

Pastor George Rice and the Growing Valley Church family welcomes Dr. Walton  back home and invites the public to attend this historic event to be held this  Sunday, February 27, 2022 at 9:15AM. The church is located at 1686 Fuller Road,  Minden, LA.
