Haughton Police to perform sobriety checkpoint this weekend

by Minden Press-Herald

The Haughton Police Department will conduct a Sobriety Checkpoint on Aug. 24 from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. at a pre-determined location within the town limits of Haughton.

The Sobriety Checkpoint is being conducted as part of a grant awarded to the Haughton Police Dept. from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission and is part of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” safety awareness campaign from Aug. 16 – Sept. 2 within the town limits of Haughton.

Deputies from the Bossier Sheriff’s Office will assist with the Sobriety Checkpoint, as well as the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office.

“I encourage all motorists to be responsible when they get behind the wheel,” said Haughton Police Chief Todd Gibson.  “Impaired driving is one of the primary factors in fatality crashes, and sobriety checkpoints are a deterrent to impaired driving in an effort to reduce alcohol related injuries and deaths.”
