Last year at this time, the North Webster Knights were struggling with a 1-3 record in Christopher Wilson’s first year as head coach.
Friday night, the Knights equaled their victory total of last season with a 31-0 win over the Homer Pelicans at Baucum-Farrar Stadium.
North Webster improved to 3-1 with its third straight victory. Homer dropped to 1-3 with its third straight loss.
“Homer’s banged up and a lot of their key guys were out and we just had to make sure we didn’t give up the big play and give them an opportunity to have some hope,” Wilson said.
“We did a really good job of limiting that. They weren’t able to connect the big pass. They weren’t able to get the kickoff return or the punt return for a touchdown.
“We knew if we put them in a position where they had to grind it out we’d be in good shape.”
North Webster had three possessions in the first half and scored touchdowns on the last two. The first ended with a fumble inside the Homer 10.
The Knights stopped the Pelicans in short-yardage situations on fourth down.
Justin Stewart threw touchdown passes to Jameson Harden and Jakayden Jackson.
Ja’Myrian Jackson scored a rushing touchdown. Christian Whitlock kicked a field goal.
Donte Owens sealed the victory with an interception return for a touchdown.
North Webster hosts Garrison, Texas, (2-2) Friday.
