High school softball: Glenbrook advances to second round of select Division IV playoffs; North Webster, Doyline fall

The  Glenbrook Lady Apaches advanced to the second round of the select Division IV playoffs with a 9-6 victory over Hanson Memorial Friday at Glenbrook.

Glenbrook (15-11), the No. 14 seed, will travel to Monroe next week to take on No. 3 St.,Frederick (19-9) in the second round. St. Frederick received a first-round bye.

Hanson Memorial, the No. 19 seed, closed its season 7-14.

Elsewhere, No. 21 seed North Webster fell to No. 12 Caldwell Parish 10-6 in a non-select Division III first-round game in Columbia, and No. 24 Doyline lost to No. 9 Choudrant in a non-select Division V first-round game at Choudrant.

At Glenbrook, the Lady Apaches took a 6-1 lead with two runs in each of the first three innings.

Hanson Memorial scored a run in the top of the fifth then tied it at 6 with four in the top of the sixth.

Glenbrook quickly broke the tie, scoring three in the bottom of the inning.

Five Lady Apaches combined for seven hits.

Sarah Margaret Mosley went 2-for-2. She walked and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the sixth.

Gabi Brown smacked a two-run home run with two outs in the sixth.

Anna Grace Vining went 2-for-3. Vivian Still had a double.

Rebecca Mosley went the distance for the win. She also had a hit.

At Caldwell Parish, North Webster trailed 10-1 after four innings. The Lady Knights scored five in the top of the sixth but couldn’t complete the comeback.

Aniyah Davis hit a grand slam home run with two outs in the sixth. She also had a single and scored on a wild pitch in the third.

Anekah Coleman went 2-for-3 with a double.

North Webster closed its season 13-15. Caldwell Parish improved to 17-15.

At Choudrant, Doyline closed its season 7-11. Choudrant improved to 21-7.

Minden and Lakeside play their first-round games Monday.

Minden (19-11), the No. 12 seed, hosts No. 21 Franklinton (12-11) in a non-select Division II game at 4 p.m. at the Minden Recreation Center (Field 14).

Lakeside (19-10), the No. 9 seed, hosts No. 24 Centerville (4-11) at 3:15.
