The Glenbrook Lady Apaches played their first official season as a member of the LHSAA in 2022. Just four years later, Glenbrook is headed to the state tournament.

The No. 2 seed Lady Apaches defeated defending champion and No. 7 Holy Savior Menard 6-0 in a select Division IV quarterfinal game Saturday afternoon at Glenbrook.

Glenbrook (24-6) will face No. 14 St. Frederick (20-13) Friday, May 1, in the semifinals at Frasch Park in Sulphur, site of the LHSAA Softball State Tournament. The Lady Warriors upset No. 6 Sacred Heart 10-8! in their quarterfinal game. This will be the third time in the last four years the teams have faced off in the playoffs.

But that is next week. The Lady Apaches had plenty to celebrate Saturday.

Glenbrook scored all six of its runs in the third inning

With the way freshman Savannah Mangrum pitched, one would’ve been enough. Mangrum gave up just three hits and two four strikeouts and two walks.

Mangrum started the Lady Apaches’ big inning by drawing a walk with one out. Gracie Heard and Gabi Brown both drew walks to load the bases.

Ellie Earnhardt then singled to center, scoring Mangrum and Heard.

Hallie Sutton followed with an RBI-double to right, giving Glenbrook a 3-0 lead.

Earnhardt scored on a sacrifice fly by Chloe Gregg. Kynzie Smith’s RBI single to left made it 5-0.

Smith advanced to second on the throw and third on a wild pitch. Anna Grace Vining’s single to  left brought Smith home.

Mangrum limited the Lady Eagles to two singles the rest of the game.

Glenbrook had seven hits. Smith went 2-for-4 with a double. Earnhardt went 2-for-3. Gracie Heard, Sutton and Vining had one hit apiece.

Holy Savior Menard closed its season 18-14.
