High school track and field: Glenbrook’s Powell a double winner in 1-1A meet; three Lady Apaches win events

Glenbrook eighth-grader Carson Powell was a double winner in the District 1-1A meey boys division Wednesday at Plain Dealing.

Powell won the 800 meters in 2:21.28 and the 1,600 in 5:16.32. He finished 4.27 seconds ahead of runner-up Germarious Williams of Haynesville in the 800 and 18.49 ahead of Magnolia School of Excellence’s Hayden Lizcano in the 1,600.

Glenbrook’s Vivian Still, Anna Morales and Hadley Haynes won events in the girls division.

Still took the 400 in 1:05.86. She finished 1.91 ahead of Haynesville’s Aa’Mauri Jones.

Morales won the javelin with a throw of 86-8, edging Homer’s Sha’Niya Webb by 8 inches.

Haynes won the pole vault with a 6-0.

The top four individuals and relay teams in each event qualified for the Region I-1A meet Monday at Ouachita Christian.

Haynes also qualified in the 100 hurdles with a fourth-place finish.

Chase Sentell finished third in the boys triple jump with a 40-8. Haynesville’s Isaiah Washington won with a 43-6.5.

Naci Morales took third in the boys javelin with a 105-4. Haynesville’s Yasmin Meadors won with a 133-0.

Mattison Fowler finished third in the girls 7:14.05. Magnolia’s Emiga Blake won in 6:43.37.

Fowler also qualified in the 3,200 with a fourth-place finish. Laurie Killgore finished fourth in the 1,600.

Olivia Downer qualified in the shot put and discus with fourth-place finishes.

Glenbrook finished fourth in the girls division with 60 points. Magnolia won with 130. Haynesville was second with 123 and Homer third with 90.

Glenbrook finished fifth in the boys division with 38. Haynesville cruised to the championship with 206 points. Magnolia was second with 92, Homer third with 66 and Ringgold fourth with 47.
