James Clifton Carter passed away quietly, May 27, 2018 at his home with two of his sons in Springhill, LA from complications of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

James was born February 2, 1947, in Doyline, La. to parents Carrie Byrnes Carter and Thomas Carter. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Harriet Carter, his brothers Frankie Carter and Johnnie Carter, his sister Dixie Hanson, and his grandson Kagun Carter. He is survived by his children: Jeff Carter, and wife, Laura residing in Robertsdale, AL, daughter, Lori Cummings and husband, Todd, residing in Sibley, LA, James Carter residing in Benton, LA, Clinton Carter residing in Springhill, LA, Clayton Carter residing in Springhill, LA, and Kirk Carter residing in DeRidder, LA, daughter-in-law Tammy Carter residing in Benton, LA, brothers: Clyde Carter and wife, Iris residing in Doyline, LA, Tommy Carter and wife, Fancy residing in Doyline ,LA, 15 grandchildren, and 7 nieces and nephews.

Mr. James “Cliff” Carter moved to Springhill in 1995 and quickly made it his home. He began by working at a local bank and soon contributed greatly to the growth of Bill & Ralph’s food distributor, a bolster to the local economy.

As time went on he also became active in the community through participating in many organizations and activities.

He was an active member of the Lions Club for many years, assisting in organizing of the annual Chicken Charbroil and serving as the Club’s President for three years. He was still an active President at his death. His time contributed to multiple outreach programs for the community including local funding for schools and scholarships, as well as an eye-glasses purchase program for those in need.

He combined his love of music and leadership while volunteering for Springhill’s Lumberjack Festival. A former President of the Lumberjack Festival Association of Springhill, he gave his time for many years behind the soundboard of the entertainment stage and ensuring all the acts were able to setup efficiently for the entertainment of Springhill.

Celebration of life will be Monday, June 4, 2018 from 6-8pm at the Springhill Civic Center. All friends and family are invited to attend.
