Jill Hunter named WPSB employee of the month for September

by Amber McDown

Jill Hunter was named employee of the month during the September school board meeting on Monday. Hunter, who is originally from Sarepta, works for the district as an IEP (Individualized Education Program) coordinator. IEP coordinators work to oversee programs that provide educational assistance to students with disabilities by ensuring compliance to policies, procedures and regulations within the special education department.

Mrs. Burgess, who nominated Hunter, said this in her nomination letter: “Jill Hunter is a very dedicated and hardworking employee. Since she has been employed with Webster Parish she has recruited many teachers — including the current principal. She has given the special education department new energy. She cares for the students and their families as is evidenced in her many conversations in IEP meetings. She works long hours, many of which are at home and even on the road. She is always available for families as well as staff. Jill is a pleasure to work with. Webster Parish really struck gold when they got her!”

After receiving her award, which was presented by Scott Walker of Taylor & Sons, Hunter responded, saying, “I want to say that I truly mean it when I tell you that I love working for Webster Parish. I love coming to work everyday. We have a wonderful, competent staff in our department as well as the teachers and colleagues that we work with in other departments and schools around the district. I think we all bring different strengths to the table to come together to serve the students and families of Webster, and there’s nowhere else I’d rather be.”

The school board’s next meeting will be held on October 3, 2022. The public is welcome to attend.
