Job fair to assist oil, gas workers

by Minden Press-Herald

A job fair will be in south Louisiana next week, but the initiative aims to assist job candidates affected by the downsizing of the oil and gas industry.

The job fair will assist those in finding rapid training options and new jobs in south Louisiana. A new website, BayouOpportunity.com will serve as a gateway to employment opportunities.

Jerri de Pingre’, president and CEO of the Minden-South Webster Chamber of Commerce, says she felt the job fair was important information to pass along to help those who have lost their jobs in the oilfield industry.

“We’ve been affected by the 15,000 jobs lost as well,” she said. “If it would help one person effected, it was worth passing along.”

The job fair will be Friday, June 10, at the main campus of the Fletcher Technical Community College in Schriever, between Houma and Thibodaux.

The website will also provide links to career help from the Louisiana Workforce Commission and its LaWorks.net website, Louisiana Economic Development’s LouisianaJobConnection.com website employment portal and training resources.
