A legal clinic, sponsored by Project Celebration in partnership with the United Way of Northwest Louisiana, is set for Friday in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

The clinic is set from 1 until 2:30 p.m., at the United Way Webster, Bienville and Claiborne Center, located at 202 Miller Street. United Way Operations Support Coordinator Kagnee Veitch says the keynote speaker will be 26th Judicial District Judge Jeff Cox, who will offer a different perspective from a legal standpoint.

“He agreed to come speak on the legal side of domestic violence and sexual assault from his perspective from the bench,” she said. “There are several different aspects to it.”
She says Project Celebration, which helps domestic abuse and sexual assault victims, is hosting the event.

“April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month,” she said. “All month long, Project Celebration is hosting different events in northwest Louisiana to show awareness for this cause. Domestic violence is a cause that is very near and dear to my heart, because I watched my mother who was a victim of domestic violence for years.”

Bridgett Salsberry, Project Celebration coordinator for Webster Parish, says the clinic will be informative.

“People need to come because they need to know their rights,” she said. “It will be very informative, and Judge Cox is so knowledgeable, because the problem is still plaguing our community.”
