Kids left in hot car while mom shoe shops

by Minden Press-Herald

Minden Police arrested a local woman for leaving her three young children in a closed up car in summer heat Tuesday while she shopped.

Police were called out to Walmart on Homer Road in reference to small children being left in a car. Upon arrival, Lt. Spencer Tiffin and Officer Shane Griffith located the vehicle and began the investigation.

A police report said the driver of the car, Jamekia Miller, 20, of Minden, was sitting in the driver’s seat. “Jamekia Miller’s three children were also inside the car,” the report said.

Two Walmart employees were standing next to the car. Tillie Manning with Walmart asset protection told police the children were left in the car unattended for approximately 19 minutes, with the engine off.

“The outside temperature was approximately 100 degrees Fahrenheit at this time,” the report said.

Miller told police she left the children unattended while she went into the store to purchase shoes. She was arrested and transported to the Minden Police Department where she was booked for cruelty to juveniles.
