Knights lose to Griffins after sloppy second half

by Minden Press-Herald

For the second consecutive week, North Webster ran out of gas after being within two touchdowns in the second half.

North Desoto beat the Knights 42-7 in North Desoto on Friday night.

The scoreline is hardly indicitave of the level of play from North Webster’s end, but there is no doubt that the Griffins are a strong team.

North Webster head coach John Ware said he knew that going in, but that the Knights still have issues they need to work out.

“It was 21-7 at halftime,” Ware said. “We had a couple of opportunities to get it to 21-14 in the third quarter, but we just couldn’t get there.”

The Knights (0-2) scored on a pass across the middle of the field on the second possession of the game.

The Griffins responded with a touchdown and recovered the ensuing onside kick. North Desoto converted that possession into another touchdown.

“In the middle of the third quarter, we punted a beautiful fifty yard punt,” Ware said. “Their best player caught  the ball and returned it for a touchdown. That put us down 28-7 and that was pretty much the game right there.

North Webster will travel to Minden this Friday for a rivalry game against the Crimson Tide in The Pit.

“This matchup has given us some good games,” Ware said. “We just haven’t been on the right side of them recently.

“That’s how things have been going lately for us too. We’ve been playing decent football, but we haven’t gotten the results.”
