Man arrested on multiple felony charges after standoff

by Minden Press-Herald

Minden police officers, along with deputies from the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office, arrested a man at a residence on Shreveport Road after a brief standoff. Michael Wayne Steveson, 48, was taken into custody following an incident involving domestic abuse and threats against the victim.

Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Shreveport Road to serve a warrant on Steveson. Before they arrived, a call came in to the police department from the victim, who expressed a desire to drop the charges. Upon arrival, officers and deputies secured a perimeter around the residence. Steveson briefly exited the house but quickly re-entered, disregarding officers’ orders to remain outside.

Steveson reappeared several times, only partially exiting the home, before finally coming out onto the porch with the victim in front of him. The victim was directed to secure the dogs, after which an officer deployed a taser on Steveson. The taser failed, and Steveson retreated into the house. Officers then entered the front porch area and demanded Steveson exit.

After complying, Steveson was ordered to the ground and placed in handcuffs. He was advised of his Miranda rights and transported to the Minden Police Department, where he was placed in a holding cell. Officers were unable to locate the firearm Steveson allegedly used to threaten the victim. According to the victim, Steveson had threatened her with bodily harm if she did not contact the police to drop the charges.

Steveson faces multiple charges, including second-degree battery, domestic abuse battery, domestic abuse aggravated assault with child endangerment, witness intimidation, and being a fugitive from the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office.

All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
