Minden beats Airline to match last season’s win total

by Minden Press-Herald

Last season, Minden’s boys basketball team won only six games all year.

After a 76-53 win over Airline on Tuesday night at The Palace, the Tide have now matched last season’s win total, and district hasn’t even started.

“I thought we grew up a little bit tonight,” Minden head coach Rennie Bailey said. “We’re continuing to grow and learn and mature.”

The Tide jumped out to an early lead and ended the first quarter up 24-6.

“Offensively we were patient against their 2-3 zone,” Bailey said. “In our losses this season, we haven’t been patient. Tonight, we shared the ball and showed great poise in finding the open man.”

Curtis Carter was often the open man, hitting five threes and leading the Tide in scoring with 20 points.

“We got our shooters open and shot well from the field,” Bailey said.

Zi Crawford had 15 points for the Tide and Cedric Emerson also hit double-figures with ten points.

Minden improves to 6-3 this season.

“It was a good team win,” Bailey said. “One thing we need to work on is rebounding, especially considering who we’re playing next.”

Minden plays Bossier (6-2) on Friday, who are the #1 team in the state despite losing two close games recently.

“We will definitely be working on rebounding this week,” Bailey said.
