For the tens of thousands of travel baseball teams across the United States, finding the next tournament to enter just became much easier with the launch of TournamentBaseball.World, a website that serves as a directory of youth baseball tournaments across the country.
The explosion of travel teams in youth team sports over the past decade has been accompanied by a huge increase in the number of tournaments available to these teams. Travel teams grew out of recreational league play, as players, parents and coaches sought more and better venues in which to compete. As these types of teams grew in popularity, new leagues were formed, and a multitude of tournaments were created to meet the demand for top level competition.
Today, there are thousands of tournaments taking place each year at different recreation venues across the United States. Finding and choosing the best tournament for a team to participate in has become an ongoing challenge for travel team coaches. “That is why we created this website,” says David Devall, a travel team coach from Louisiana and one of the founders of TournamentBaseball.World. “Searching for and comparing tournaments offered for our team became an all-consuming task for me as a coach, and we would often find out we had missed a great tournament that might have been better fit for our team because we didn’t know about it. Several of us got together and came up with the idea of creating a website that would function as a clearing house for tournaments. Our goal is to provide one website that provides an easy-to-use, convenient directory of upcoming tournaments any coach can easily use.”
TournamentBaseball.World allows tournaments to be searched by dates and locations. Each event listing includes an overview of the details, along with a link to the event website for more information. Organizations hosting a tournament can submit their event for including in the directory through a form on the website at no charge. Future plans for the site include the addition of camps, coaching/lesson services, advice blog, a marketplace for the resale of equipment, and sponsor advertising.
“Our goal is to help save coaches and parents like us time, energy and money by making the process of tournament selection easier through this website,” says Devall. “We know from personal experience that baseball is more than a game; it is learning life lessons that last a lifetime. This site supports that. We see the potential for this becoming a valuable online resource for shared information important to travel baseball teams and their players.”
