The Piney Hills Louisiana Master Gardeners hosted the 2025 “Trails & Trellises: A Garden Tour” on Saturday, April 26. Sponsored by the LSU AgCenter, proceeds from the event support the Master Gardener program.

The annual tour featured four private gardens in Minden and Homer, each showcasing unique displays of spring flora, landscape design, and garden artistry.

Pam and Freddie Gruner’s garden at 1155 Alvin Miller Road in Minden, cultivated over 40 years, included vibrant spring blooms, whimsical décor, and a new native rock water feature. A wide variety of perennials and bulbs were available for sale at this location.

In Homer, three gardens were open to visitors. Jimmy and Lynn May’s garden at 150 May Lane featured heirloom plants, butterfly gardens, and wooded trails surrounding a pond.

Patti and Tommy Bourne’s property at 12990 Hwy 9 offered vibrant flower beds and hanging fern pots. Antique car enthusiasts viewed a collection of vintage cars displayed in a nearby barn.

Janice Plummer’s garden at 289 Coleman Loop was described as a lakeside oasis with hydrangeas, azaleas, roses, and tropical plants. The area featured a rose garden, potted exotics, and expansive spaces for relaxing among nature.

The Webster Parish Extension Office of the LSU AgCenter announced that applications are now being accepted for a new Master Gardener class to be held in summer 2025. Class size is limited, and the deadline to apply is May 27, 2025.
