Quality is on the menu at Friendz

by Minden Press-Herald

A drive along Martin Luther King Drive and you’re sure to smell the scent of good food coming from Friendz restaurant.

Minden native Jim “Tiger” Myles has been cooking up good food for customers at his popular eatery going on 10 years and enjoys the meeting with new and returning customers and providing them with great food.

“The quality speaks for itself,” Myles said. “I’ve always said that if you have a problem, let me know and I’ll fix it and to this day, no one has taken me up on that offer.”

The restaurant was originally meant to be a hot dog stand. While vacationing in Virginia after his retirement from the General Motors Assembly Plant in Shreveport in 2005, he noticed how popular hotdog vendors were and wanted to bring that concept home.

“I felt this was something I could bring back and do for my friends at home,” he said. “That’s how the name Friendz was born.”

After returning home, Myles converted a produce stand that he operated along with two friends since the 90s into a hotdog stand and from there, the business only grew.

“Customers would ask me why I don’t sell hamburgers,” he said. “Then they started to ask for larger hamburgers and fried fish and the menu just kept developing.”

Ten years later Myles is offering much more than just hotdogs. The menu boasts items such as red beans and rice, gumbo and pork chop sandwiches.

Friendz will celebrate its 10th anniversary in July. While Myles doesn’t plan on turning off the grill anytime soon, he said the 20th anniversary would probably be up to his son DeQuori, a culinary arts student at Bossier Parish Community College who currently works the evening shift.
