Springhill Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash

by Minden Press-Herald

SPRINGHILL – Around 7 p.m. Sunday, Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a motorcycle crash on Springhill Airport Road, about one mile south of LA 157 in Springhill.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by 49-year-old Stephen Ray Mickens of Springhill, Louisiana, was northbound on Springhill Airport Road. For reasons still under investigation, he failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and was ejected.

Mickens was transported to University Health where he died from injuries sustained in the crash. Impairment and speed are suspected factors. At this time, it is unknown if Mickens was wearing a helmet.

A toxicology sample was taken from Mickens and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that avoiding all distractions, obeying the posted speed limit, avoiding fatigued driving, and not driving while impaired can often mean the difference between life and death.

In 2018, Troop G has investigated six fatal crashes resulting in six deaths.
