A Minden man faces multiple charges after allegedly fleeing from officers during a traffic stop and discarding items while running through a wooded area, according to a Minden Police Department report.
Police said an officer observed Shederrick Shine, 39, driving on Shreveport Road on June 11 without functioning tail lights and initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of South Randall and Shreveport Road.
According to the report, Shine told the officer he did not have a driver’s license and had never been licensed to drive.
While speaking with Shine, the officer reported detecting a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath and person. Police said Shine appeared unsteady on his feet, struggled to remove his seat belt, stumbled while walking, and had difficulty maintaining his balance. The officer also noted that Shine’s eyes appeared glazed and bloodshot.
Police said Shine denied consuming alcohol or narcotics and offered consent for a search of his vehicle.
During the encounter, Shine reportedly walked to the passenger side of the vehicle and attempted to open the door, stating he intended to remove a dog from the vehicle so it could be searched. The officer intervened and instructed Shine not to re-enter the vehicle.
According to the report, Shine then stumbled backward before running north on South Randall Street. Officers said he ran behind a church at the corner of Shreveport Road and South Randall Street, where he allegedly threw items onto the ground while attempting to evade capture.
Police reported that Shine entered a wooded area adjacent to the church and appeared to discard additional items before officers caught up with him. An attempt to deploy a Taser was unsuccessful, according to the report. Officers then physically detained Shine and placed him in handcuffs.
Shine was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while impaired, flight from an officer, possession of a firearm or concealed weapon by a convicted felon, driving without a license, no insurance, failure to secure vehicle registration, and equipment violations related to vehicle lighting.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
