Technical Community College bill passes House

BATON ROUGE — House Bill 89, Rep. Wayne McMahen’s bill to to allow Northwest Louisiana Technical College to become a technical community college, passed the Louisiana House of Representatives Tuesday.

HB 89 is McMahen’s, R-Springhill, first piece of legislation since taking office. He was given a sign by his colleagues while presenting the bill on the floor of the house that read, “first bill.”

NWLTC Director Dr. Earl Meador was on hand to witness the 95-0 vote.

“This was a especially memorable for Representative McMahen as this was his first legislative initiative,” Meador said. “The support from so many across our state is truly appreciated.”

HB 89 was amended to ensure all campuses of NWLTC would be included in the change.

The bill now moves to the Senate Education Committee then the Senate floor for final passage.
