Dr. Dennis Swanberg will be the featured speaker during First Baptist Church’s annual Prayer Banquet, Sunday, February 28, 2016, at 6 p.m.

Dr. Swanberg, known as “The Swan,” is considered by many as “America’s Minister of Encouragement.” A former pastor who took a leap of faith and stepped down from the pulpit and up to the microphone aspires to instill hope and motivate people from all walks of life. A motivational speaker, teacher, preacher, author, counselor, TV personality and humorist, he employs laughter “as a tool to break down people’s barriers about themselves and promotes faith and family values in a lighthearted and humorous way.”

A nationally recognized personality, Dr. Swanberg has appeared with Bill and Gloria Gaither’s Homecoming Friends, has authored several books, including Planting Shade Trees and The Man Code, has numerous audio and video recordings, and is a featured speaker at men’s conferences, churches, civic groups, corporations, and anywhere he finds an ear to listen.

Dr. Swanberg is also the host of the nationally broadcasted television shows “The Dennis Swanberg Show,” seen every week on the TBN Cable Channel, and “Swan’s Place,” seen every week on the ACTS/FamilyNet, SkyAngel Cable Networks, and GETV.org.

Covering a range of topics, Dr. Swanberg’s prescription is: “I try to bring people laughter, but my advice to them is always that joy is a choice. Happiness is dependent on what happens in your life, but joy is a choice you can make every single day.” “The Swan” turns his 40 years of wit into a lifetime of wisdom.

Dr. Swanberg earned both a Master of Divinity (1980) and a Doctor of Ministry (1986) from Southwestern Seminary, Ft. Worth, Texas. He is married to the former Lauree Wilkes of Ft. Worth, Texas. Dennis and Lauree have two grown sons: Chad and his wife Lisa, and Dustin and his wife, Britny. ‘The Swans’ make their home in Monroe, Louisiana.

Rev. Leland Crawford, pastor of FBC Minden, welcomes Dr. Swanberg to the church and community. “We are excited that Dr. Swanberg will be here during this time our church emphasizes prayer and the role our Prayer Ministry in our church. We are looking forward to a great night of fellowship, laughter, and encouragement from Dr. Swanberg in the life of our church and the lives of individuals.” The community is invited to attend.
