UPDATE: Minden prepares for expanded Love the Boot cleanup event

Miller Quarters cleanup canceled due to forecasted weather

The City of Minden, in partnership with the Greater Minden Chamber of Commerce, is gearing up for its annual Love the Boot Cleanup event, with expanded opportunities for community participation and a celebratory gathering to follow.

Following the success of last year’s event, where volunteers collected hundreds of pounds of trash and completed beautification projects, organizers are aiming for even greater community involvement this year. Chamber President Stephanie Barnett emphasized the importance of participation, especially from local schools, in an effort to beautify campuses and surrounding areas.

Updated Cleanup Schedule Due to the threat of severe weather, the previously scheduled cleanup at Miller Quarters Park on Saturday, April 5, has been canceled. However, the citywide cleanup event on Wednesday, April 9, will proceed as planned.

  • Wednesday, April 9 (8 AM – 12 PM): A citywide cleanup day will take place, focusing on litter collection and beautification projects across Minden.

Celebration and Awards Ceremony To recognize the efforts of participants, a Thank You After-Party & Awards Ceremony will be held at Miller Quarters Park on April 9 at 12 PM. The event will feature music, food, games, and award presentations in the following categories:

  • Most Spirited Team
  • Largest Team
  • Most Litter Collected

Businesses and organizations can also request assistance for projects such as painting, power washing, and landscaping by emailing [email protected].

Looking Back and Moving Forward Last year’s Love the Boot Cleanup event saw collaboration between the City of Minden, the Greater Minden Chamber, and Webster Parish Tourism. Volunteers spread across the city to clean up litter, plant flowers, and enhance public spaces. The City of Minden won the Largest Team award, Gibsland Bank & Trust was named Most Spirited, and Coca-Cola earned the Most Litter Collected distinction.

With an increased focus on community engagement and environmental stewardship, organizers hope to surpass last year’s participation and impact. Those interested in joining the effort can sign up at https://bit.ly/4iETtGz or consider sponsoring cleanup materials and after-party expenses.

“We look forward to seeing Minden come together once again to keep our community clean and beautiful,” said Barnett. “This is our chance to give back, make a difference, and have some fun while doing it.”

For any questions, participants can reach out to the Chamber.
