Walk of Honor celebrates the life and legacy of Peyton Peevy

by Minden Press-Herald

Minden, La. — September 30, 2025 — Today, family, friends, and members of the Minden Medical Center community gathered to honor Peyton Peevy with a heartfelt Walk of Honor ceremony. The event paid tribute to Peyton’s life and the incredible gift of hope he leaves behind as an organ donor.

Following an extensive brain injury, Peyton’s parents, Angela and Brad Peevy, confirmed their son’s wishes to become a donor—choices Peyton had made long before this moment. “The LOPA staff have been here since decisions were made, offering guidance, remarkable patience, and empathy,” Angela and Brad shared. “We feel very strongly that Peyton’s donation will make a positive impact on the lives of others—allowing him to extend his life and legacy through those who receive the gift of life.”

At 2:30 p.m., the Walk of Honor began. Loved ones, hospital staff, and community members lined the halls as Peyton was escorted to surgery, standing together in respect, gratitude, and remembrance. The solemn yet uplifting tradition served as a symbol of the courage and compassion that defined Peyton’s journey.

Angela and Brad expressed deep appreciation for the care they received during this difficult time. “We cannot say enough about the staff of Minden Medical Center and the love and care we were shown. Their support has been a source of comfort in our grief.”

The impact of organ donation is far-reaching. As Ashley Davis, LOPA Community Educator, shared: “The gift you can give through organ and tissue donation is truly incredible—a blessing to those waiting for a life-saving transplant. More than 100,000 patients are on the National Transplant Waiting List, and nearly 2,000 of them are right here in Louisiana. The Walk of Honor concluded with the raising of the Donate for Life flag in the front of the hospital.  A moment of silence, where everyone gathered symbolizing Peyton’s spirit flying and the new beginnings he was making possible for others. Tears and smiles mingled as the community reflected on the profound impact one young life could have, even in its absence.

Angela and Brad held each other close, comforted by the knowledge that their son’s legacy would live on in the lives he touched. Friends and family shared stories of Peyton’s kindness, and his unwavering determination to help others.

The ceremony served as a poignant reminder of the power of generosity and the enduring bonds of community. It also highlighted the critical importance of organ donation and the hope it brings to families facing unimaginable challenges.

In the days following the Walk of Honor, the community of Minden continued to rally around the Peevy family, offering support and love. The event sparked conversations about organ donation throughout the region, inspiring many to register as donors themselves.

Peyton’s story became a beacon of hope, illustrating the beautiful possibilities born from compassion and selflessness. His legacy will continue to inspire and encourage others to take steps toward making a difference, ensuring that his spirit remains an everlasting force for good.
