Webster Parish Council on Aging celebrates Christmas with a Triple Notes performance

by Amber McDown

The Webster Parish Council on Aging recently hosted its annual Christmas party on December 15, treating seniors to a delightful luncheon, door prizes, and musical entertainment. The Triple Notes, composed of DeeAnne Meece, Julie Free, and Sandy Savage, members of the singing group Noteworthy, took the stage to perform cherished Christmas classics.

This trio has a longstanding friendship, sharing laughter and camaraderie for many years. Their performance at the Council on Aging marked a return engagement after a successful appearance last February for Valentine’s Day.

Meece reflected on the genesis of Noteworthy during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. “One of the girls said, ‘Do you know how to Zoom?’ and we started having happy hour every Wednesday night, and we just bonded and got so close,” she explained. The group expanded to include Karen Guice through her connections with several members in the Ms. Senior organization.

The ladies expressed their joy in performing at the Council on Aging in Minden, emphasizing the warmth and positive atmosphere generated by the seniors in attendance. Savage noted, “There’s such good participation here and such a wonderful feel-good, warm and fuzzy feeling.”

The performers share their love for entertaining others and find fulfillment in their engagements. Free remarked, “We love doing this. And we get to relate because we are seniors.” Meece humorously added, “We get more out of this than they do.”

All three members actively participate in the Spectacular Follies, an acclaimed adults-over-55 musical theater event. Meece, serving as the Follies’ director, revealed that they have just concluded their Christmas show and are gearing up for the upcoming spring production, “Staying Alive, Our 70s Flashback,” scheduled for April 24-28, 2024, at the Granville Arts Center in Garland, Texas.

Expressing gratitude for their experience at the Council on Aging, Meece stated, “We love coming here. Karen, the people, the whole staff. They’re unbelievable.” Free added, “It’s a treat for us to be here.” Savage highlighted the fitting connection between Karen Guice and the Council on Aging. “I love the fact that Karen found this place and is working here, and that they found her,” said Savage. “It’s a great fit.”

Karen Guice, the head of Outreach at the Council on Aging in Minden, extends her gratitude to all the contributors of the gifts which were distributed as door prizes. She, the board of directors, and the staff invite any who are interested in the many services and activities offered to seniors to contact them at (318) 371-3056.
