Will it snow or won’t it? That question remains unanswered for most of Webster Parish, but officials are gearing up for the possibility.
The national Weather Service out of Shreveport issued a winter weather advisory early Monday morning. “A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 9 pm. tonight through 9 a.m. Tuesday for much of North LA and Union County AR,” the announcement said.
“Rain will transition over to snow later tonight before ending by daybreak Tuesday. Snow totals of 0.5-1.0 inches, with isolated higher amounts, are possible.”
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced that personnel are prepared for the possibility of wintry precipitation moving into the north and central regions overnight on Monday, January 28, 2019.
The Shreveport, Monroe, Chase, and Alexandria Districts will dispatch scouts along certain routes as needed across each region to assess road conditions as temperatures drop to freezing and below.
“DOTD encourages motorists to use extra caution while driving during hazardous weather conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses, and to avoid driving if possible during a winter weather event,” DOTD said.
“District personnel will continue to monitor the forecast and make appropriate decisions to ensure the safety of the traveling public.”
