Prom dress giveaway Saturday

by Minden Press-Herald

Prom season is getting underway and as girls and their dates prepare for the formal affair, The Cinderella Project is helping girls who may not be able to afford a prom dress.

A dress giveaway, where juniors and senior students from Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, DeSoto, Red River and Webster parishes can try on and select a free prom dress in a fun, respectful environment. From 9 a.m. until noon, Saturday, March 28, the event will be at Ayers Career College located at 8802 Jewella Avenue in Shreveport.

Founded in January 2012, the Cinderella Project is a 501(c)3 volunteer organization run entirely by volunteers. The Cinderella Project fosters empowerment and individual beauty by providing free prom dresses to high school students who cannot otherwise afford them. Since 2012, the organization has collected more than 2,000 dress donations from hundreds of donors and retailers.

Any junior or senior student from the above parishes who are in need of a dress are eligible to receive a free dress at this year’s giveaway.

Students will be guided through The Cinderella Project’s extensive dress inventory by a volunteer personal shopper who will help them try on and select the perfect dress. Each student will have 30 minutes to shop. Because of limited dressing room space, students may have to wait to enter the dress giveaway. No pre-event registration will be required.

Students are required to bring a report card or a letter from their teacher, counselor or principal confirming their enrollment at an area high school. Students must also bring a parent, guardian or family member over the age of 18 with them to the giveaway.

For more information, call the school at 318-602-0041.
