High waters delay contained burn unit delivery

by Minden Press-Herald

The rising waters of the Red and Mississippi Rivers are holding up the delivery of the contained burn unit that was set to be at Camp Minden this week.

Col. Pete Schneider, with the Louisiana Military Department, says the unit is still in Oklahoma on a barge awaiting transport to the Port of Natchitoches.

“It’s on the barge sitting, it’s just we can’t move it right now,” Schneider said. “I don’t have a date, and unfortunately all that water is moving our way. We may have a problem getting through the locks on the Red River too, so we’re working with the Corps (of Engineers) on that too.”

The contained burn unit was set to arrive in Webster Parish Friday, Jan. 8.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more becomes available.
