by Amber McDown

Webster Parish voters will consider several school district tax renewals in the October 11 election, including propositions affecting parishwide schools as well as districts in Sarepta, Cotton Valley, and Springhill.

Parishwide School District Propositions No. 1 and No. 2 will ask voters to renew two ad valorem taxes of 5.78 mills and 2.48 mills for 10 years. The renewals are expected to generate about $1.8 million and $779,400 annually to provide additional support, repairs, upkeep, and maintenance for public schools across the parish.

The Sarepta School District No. 35 Proposition seeks renewal of a 24.25 mills tax for 20 years. The measure is projected to raise about $241,785 annually to support school facilities and operations, including construction, repairs, and improvements.

Cotton Valley School District No. 12 will place a proposition before voters to renew a 5 mills tax for 10 years. The renewal is estimated to collect about $152,500 annually to fund school support, facilities, equipment, and programs in the district.

Sales Tax School District No. 6 will ask voters to approve the renewal of a ½ percent sales tax in perpetuity, beginning April 1, 2029. The tax is expected to generate about $2.3 million annually for school construction, improvements, and maintenance.

The Consolidated School District No. 3 Proposition seeks renewal of a 25.21 mills tax for 10 years. The measure is projected to generate about $1.05 million annually to pay for construction, renovation, repairs, and equipment for school facilities.
