Doyline man faces multiple charges after shooting incident

by Minden Press-Herald

A Doyline man with a prior felony conviction is facing new charges after deputies say he fired several shots at a residence in Doyline on Thursday, August 21.

Dallas Major Edwards, 23, was arrested and booked into Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center, where he is being held on a $135,000 bond, according to Webster Parish Sheriff Jason Parker.

Court records show Edwards was arrested in December 2020 and initially charged with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Shane Isiah Siah of Shreveport at a residence in Doyline. He later pleaded to lesser charges, receiving a sentence of one year for felony illegal possession of illegal things and 10 years hard labor for conspiracy to commit simple burglary, with all but one year suspended. His sentence was to be followed by three years of active supervised probation.

In the most recent case, Parker said Edwards allegedly fired multiple rounds from a handgun while at the residence of a family member, striking a vehicle parked in the yard. Investigators later recovered spent cartridges from the scene.

During a search of the vehicle Edwards had reportedly been driving, deputies found weapons along with a bag containing suspected cocaine in the back seat.

Edwards was taken into custody without incident shortly after 9:30 PM Thursday and transferred to a Shreveport facility for evaluation before being returned to Webster Parish. His arrest came just hours after being released around noon the same day.

He is charged with illegal possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm or concealed weapon by a convicted felon, possession of a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance (cocaine), illegally carrying a weapon in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance and simple criminal damage to property.

Edwards had also been the subject of an earlier report of shots fired from a Minden neighborhood Thursday evening, though deputies said that report was unfounded after the area was searched and secured.

All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
