A Minden man was arrested late Thursday after running from police during a warrant arrest attempt at a gas station, according to the Minden Police Department.
Around 11:13 PM on August 28, officers observed 44-year-old Antonio Elkins at the Circle K on Shreveport Road. Police said Elkins, who had an active bench warrant, was seen repeatedly walking between his vehicle and the store in what officers described as a stalling tactic.
When officers attempted to stop him, Elkins ran south through the parking lot and onto Erwin Thompson Drive. Police said he ignored multiple commands to stop and made several failed attempts to climb a fence before officers caught up to him. After continuing to refuse commands to get on the ground, Elkins was taken into custody.
According to police, Elkins later admitted to driving to the store despite having a suspended license. He also told officers he did not know about the warrant and said he ran because he “just got off work and was ready to go home.”
Elkins’ vehicle was towed. He was booked on the bench warrant at the Minden Police Department and also charged with operating a vehicle with a suspended license and resisting an officer.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
