Construction advances on Griffith Stadium, new water tank projects in Minden

by Amber McDown

Two major construction projects are reshaping parts of Minden as work continues on improvements to the city’s recreational facilities and water infrastructure.

At Griffith Stadium, home of the Minden High School baseball program, demolition is underway as crews remove the stadium’s existing grandstand seating to make way for a completely rebuilt facility.

While much of the existing stadium is being removed, some portions of the facility will remain. The restroom building and sections of the perimeter fencing are expected to stay in place, and the existing batting cage will be modified and incorporated into the new design. Nearly everything else at the site will be newly constructed.

The renovated stadium is expected to provide modern amenities for athletes and spectators while continuing to serve as the home field for the Crimson Tide baseball program. Construction is currently projected to be completed in June or July 2027.

Just a few blocks away, another major infrastructure project is taking shape along Clerk Street adjacent to Minden High’s softball complex.

Crews are preparing the site for construction of a new 2 million-gallon water storage tank that will strengthen Minden’s water distribution system and provide additional storage capacity for the city’s growing needs.

Site work currently includes demolition of existing structures and preparation of the foundation pad where the tank will be built. Once completed, the new water tank will measure approximately 100 feet in diameter.

The water tank project is also expected to reach completion in mid- to late summer 2027.

The two projects represent significant public investments in both recreation and critical infrastructure. While construction activity may temporarily alter the appearance of the surrounding areas, the completed projects are expected to provide long-term benefits for residents, students, and visitors.

With heavy equipment active at both locations, motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to use caution when traveling near the construction zones. Once completed, the projects will add two new landmarks to Minden and further the city’s ongoing investment in community infrastructure.
