At the school board meeting held on May 2, the board approved many more improvements to the parish’s schools.
The District 6 ½ Cent Sales Tax Fund will be paying for the following items or services. Richardson Elementary will be purchasing seven diversified spaces science Chemguard top tables from Demco for $4,630.52 (including shipping) and six classroom rectangular tables with high pressure laminate from BMS for $2,034. Richardson will also be having a new ice machine installed and a broken one replaced with a new Manitowoc ice machine by Hodges Services, LLC for $5,608.38. Phillips Elementary will be getting a new stage curtain from Quality Stage Curtains for $4,408 and will also be having the wheelchair lift replaced by Oracle Elevator for $21,750. Minden High will pay Grider’s Glass $14, 468.75 to install two passage doors to reduce unauthorized traffic in the office suite, and they will pay Johnson Controls $1,605.04 for HVAC repairs.
The Consolidated 3 Maintenance Fund will be used to purchase 32 chairs and 8 tables for Lakeside Jr/Sr High from Virco for $2,475.60.
The Doyline Maintenance Fund will be used to pay Mechanical Concepts for HVAC repairs to the elementary building ($2,015.71) and the office area ($450).
The Shongaloo Building Fund will be used to pay Gentry and Holder Floors $2,115 to screen and recoat the gym floor at North Webster Lower Elementary. This school will also be purchasing a 21” push lawn mower from Smith’s South Central for $254.15.
The Cotton Valley Maintenance Fund will be used to pay Gentry and Holder Floors $2,620 to screen and recoat the gym floor at North Webster Upper Elementary. This school will also be purchasing an ICE 20’ Auto Scrubber from VCC Janitorial Supply for $6,700.
The Springhill Maintenance Fund will be paying for the following items or services. North Webster High will be using $1,520.46 to pay BSN Sports and to reimburse the school for softball netting and storm-damaged batting cages. These monies were originally reimbursed by insurance funds. Browning Elementary will be paying Lone Star Communications $2,893 for fire alarm repairs, and they will also purchase a Stihl edger ($341.99) and a Stihl hedge trimmer ($369.99) from Hol-Mont Sales as well as a Crewman 20 HD floor machine from VCC Janitorial Supply for $975.
While not necessarily under the heading of “improvements,” the school board has also approved the sale of 18 school buses that have been declared surplus. The bus models range from 1999 to 2001 and are all either Bluebirds or Fords. When the buses will be available for purchase is not yet known.
The school board’s next meeting will be on June 6 at the school board office. The public is welcome to attend.
