Christmas in Minden this weekend

Christmas in Minden will be taking place in downtown Minden on December 16 and 17.

The fun kicks off on Friday with the Tree Lighting Ceremony at 5:30 p.m. at the Civic Center. Then, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. there will be a tractor-pulled hayride leaving from the Webster Parish Courthouse to tour Christmas lights and caroling in the Historic District. The Young Women’s Service Club will be selling hot chocolate for $1.

Also starting at 6 p.m., there will be a Rehab Reindeer Run 5k from Minden Medical Center through the Historic District.

On Saturday, December 17, there will be a host of activities going on, some free and some for a fee. Geaux Fresh will be serving a festive Christmas brunch between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Broken Bean will be serving hot chocolate and coffee from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. 

The Dorcheat Museum will host adult ornament crafting from 10 a.m. till 3 p.m. for $10. You’ll be able to create keepsake ornaments while watching Christmas movies and enjoying refreshments.

The Reindeer Games Children’s Area will be open in downtown 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. There will be bounce houses, pony rides, and more!

Presents on Pearl will allow you to get some of your Christmas shopping accomplished. Check out the art and craft vendors on Pearl Street  between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Logan McConathy State Farm Agency will be hosting a free photo shoot with Santa and Mrs. Claus 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. Be sure to bring your Christmas list!

There will be kids ornament crafting at City Art Works from noon until 3 p.m. This is a free event with all supplies provided by Main Street. Then head down to the Courtyard for free face painting. The Minden JSL will be providing s’mores before the parade.

The library will host a story time to read Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer with music provided by the Hurley Music School of Centenary College. There will also be a self-guided book walk.

At Jacqueline Park, you’ll be able to meet Rudoph and snap a few pictures from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.

The parade starts in downtown Minden at 4 p.m. (if it gets rained out, they’ll have it on December 18 at 4 p.m.). Afterward there will be an award show for the parade at 5:30 at the Civic Center and a fireworks show at 6 p.m.

Finally, they will be showing Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer on the big screen in Miller Quarters Park at 6:30 p.m. This will be a free event.

There’s lots to see and do this weekend, so be sure to get out and enjoy the fun.
