A Minden woman was taken into custody on October 28 after allegedly attempting to shoplift by switching product barcodes at the Walmart on Homer Road.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the store at approximately 4:30 PM following a report from the Walmart loss prevention team. Store security reported observing a female customer, later identified as 25-year-old Angel Ward, allegedly transferring barcodes from low-cost items to more expensive household products. The total value of the goods with the altered barcodes was $40.70.
Upon arrival, officers met with Walmart loss prevention personnel, who provided still images showing the barcode switch, confirming the incident. Ward was detained in the security office, where she was read her rights under the Miranda ruling. Following the advisement, Ward admitted to the barcode alterations, citing financial difficulties and her status as a single mother as reasons for her actions.
Ward was taken into custody without incident and was transported to the Minden Police Department. She faces a misdemeanor theft charge.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
