In the ever-evolving field of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Felton Williams, a proud alumnus of Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College (NLTCC), has taken on a crucial role as the school’s new HVAC instructor. Joining the NLTCC staff last year, Mr. Williams is not just a skilled professional but also a dedicated individual with a passion for helping others.

A Keachi, Louisiana native, Mr. Williams took a unique journey to become an HVAC expert. After high school, he enlisted in the Engineering unit of the army, serving for eleven years. His decision to return to school and graduate from NLTCC’s HVAC program stemmed from a desire to deepen the bond with his father, who worked in air conditioning. Since graduating in 2021, Mr. Williams has worked as a Service Tech for Shep’s AC and has also started his own company serving customers as DDFZ HVAC.

“I love having the opportunity to be an influence in someone’s life to help them better themselves,” says Mr. Williams, emphasizing his belief in love over hate. Recently, Mr. Williams achieved certification to proctor the A2L (Slightly Flammable Refrigerant) test and plans to integrate this knowledge into the HVAC curriculum at NLTCC. The A2L refrigerant is emerging as a key player in the industry as the most popular refrigerant used in residential settings, R410A, faces extinction. Come 2025, R-410A will no longer be usable in new equipment, and A2L will take its place.

Mr. Williams’ forward-thinking approach ensures NLTCC students are well-prepared for the evolving HVAC field. Through hands-on learning experiences, including field trips to connect students to employment opportunities and up-to-date practices in the field. His dedication to staying current guarantees students receive top-notch education aligned with industry standards.

The HVAC Technician program at NLTCC is designed to equip individuals with the skills needed for a variety of jobs in heating and air conditioning. These skills include how to install, diagnose, repair, and maintain the operating condition of domestic, residential, and commercial heating and air conditioning units.

If you are looking for a rewarding career in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, NLTCC is here to support you. The HVAC Program, located on the Shreveport Campus, can be completed in as little as 18 months. With a combination of classroom, laboratory, and hands-on training, students are well-prepared for their future profession.
