Girls Night Out this Saturday

by Amber McDown

The Junior Service League (JSL) will be hosting a Girls Night Out at the Civic Center this Saturday. The theme this year is Nashville so, as they posted on social media, “Don your sparkle, fringe, and bell bottom flares for an evening of food, drink, entertainment, and shopping.”

This event has already sold out, and over 500 ladies will be attending, not including JSL members. They will have over 20 vendors from across the state, line dancing, an open bar, and Nashville inspired appetizers. Drawings for door prizes will be held every 15 minutes for ticket holders.

“We have gone all out with decor,” said Kayla Rodriguez, the event chairperson. “We have really worked hard on transforming the Civic Center. There will be something to see everywhere you turn.”

In fact, they have created custom props to go with each of their top tier sponsors: Home Federal Bank, Corbeau Creek, Debbie Callender and Catherine Hunt of La. State Realty, and Nick Cox for Minden Mayor. “People are going to be blown away,” said Rodriguez. “The props are so much fun, and you will definitely want to snap a picture with each one.” If you are attending, make sure your phone is fully charged because you’re going to want to take a lot of pictures.

If you are unable to attend, you can still participate in the online raffle. Some of the items include a rug of your choice from Simply Southern Cottage, a fishing charter from Reelin Good Charters, and a charcuterie class by Lucia Wood. To see everything that’s available and to buy your raffle tickets, go to the Minden Junior Service League’s website: mindenjsl.com.

Girls Night Out is not just for a fun time. It’s a fundraiser that the JSL uses to provide scholarships. Each year they award a scholarship to one senior from Webster Parish. Last year the scholarship was for $5,000.

If you’ve already purchased your tickets, the party will be rolling from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. If you are unable to attend, please support the JSL’s efforts by participating in the online raffle. They also accept donations for their scholarship fund.
