Karen’s Korner: Our veterans

by Minden Press-Herald

Karen’s Korner

As you know, as senior adults we have a very appreciative and highly regarded attitude concerning our Veterans. They have paid the price for our freedom in this country today, and for the freedom in many other countries as well. Since the United States’ founding in 1776, more than 1 million Americans have fought and died for freedom in conflicts around the world.

Veterans play a vital role in protecting our freedom. Their commitment and sacrifices are essential in maintaining our democratic society.

“In addition to being away from loved ones, veterans also sacrifice their physical and mental wellbeing. The rigors of military training and combat can take a significant toll on a person’s physical health, leading to a wide range of injuries and medical conditions. Furthermore, the emotional toll of warfare can lead to conditions such as PTSD, depression, and anxiety. These conditions can be debilitating and require ongoing medical attention and treatment.

Despite these challenges, veterans remain committed to defending our democracy and protecting our freedom. They embody the ideals of selflessness, bravery, and sacrifice, inspiring others to follow in their footsteps.” (AmericanWomenVeterans.org)

Please pray for our Veterans. There are many needs among them. Always take a moment to thank them when you see them and remember; they are the backbone of our nation’s defense and safeguarding our freedom. Through their service and sacrifice, they ensured that we can live in a free and democratic society. These brave men and women selflessly dedicate themselves to protecting our rights and liberties, often putting themselves in harm’s way for the greater good.

We are so grateful for our Veterans here at the Council on Aging. God Bless them all, abundantly.
