Webster Parish School Board recognizes outstanding students and educators

At their regular meeting on April 1, the Webster Parish School Board took the opportunity to honor exceptional students, teachers, support staff, and principals in the parish as the 2024 school year approaches its end.

Personnel Director Robin Tucker, who presented the awards, emphasized the importance of recognizing the hard work and dedication of these individuals, stating, “Recognizing all these people is a yearly reminder of how many great folk we have and the hard work that they do. It takes all of us working together to make our system work.”

Students of the Year were celebrated in three grade levels: 5th, 8th, and 12th. Layla Holford of Richardson Elementary, Parker Jo Howell of Doyline Elementary, Harleigh Humphrey of Brown Upper Elementary, Maddox Taylor of North Webster Elementary, and Ada Murphy of Central Elementary were honored as the 5th grade Students of the Year. Ada Murphy was further recognized as the overall Student of the Year for 5th grade.

In the 8th grade category, Lucas Owens of Webster Jr High, Jsiyah Bell of North Webster Jr High, Chloe McDowell of Doyline Jr High, and Prudence Watson of Lakeside Jr High were named Students of the Year. Prudence Watson also received the overall Student of the Year award for 8th grade.

For the 12th grade, Kaileah Calloway of Doyline High, Kamryn Goodson of Lakeside High, Isabella Sylvia of North Webster High, and Karlee Lange of Minden High were recognized as Students of the Year. Karlee Lange was selected as the overall Student of the Year for 12th grade.

Teachers of the Year were also acknowledged, with Vickie Ramie of Central Elementary, Shelie Hanson of Browning Elementary, Annette Parrie of Richardson Elementary, Jamie Whatley of Doyline Elementary, Sasha Odom of North Webster Upper Elementary, Tikina Johnson of Jones Elementary, Serena Martin of Phillips Elementary, Christin Hanson of North Webster Lower Elementary, and Johnnie Ware of Brown Upper Elementary receiving accolades. Johnnie Ware was named the overall elementary Teacher of the Year.

In the junior high category, Jessica Green of Lakeside Jr High, Callie Boyett of North Webster Jr High, Amy Jones of Webster Jr High, and Ja’Tavion Jackson of Doyline Jr High were recognized as Teachers of the Year, with Ja’Tavion Jackson winning the overall junior high Teacher of the Year award.

High school Teachers of the Year included Don Watson of Doyline High, Lessie Brown of Minden High, Jeff Brown of North Webster High, and Madalyn Wynn of Lakeside High, with Madalyn Wynn named the overall high school Teacher of the Year.

The Support Staff of the Year were also acknowledged, with one member selected from each school. Darlene Couch of Lakeside Jr/Sr High, Rachel Miller of Central Elementary, Shronda Taylor of Brown Upper Elementary, Calvin Gates of Browning Elementary, Lori Jester of North Webster Jr High, Krystal Luellen of Richardson Elementary, Jasmine Cooksey of Webster Jr High, Holly Watson of Doyline High, Amy Barrett of Minden High, Tiffany Hanson of North Webster Upper Elementary, LaTiffany Burns of Jones Elementary, Tammy Guice of Phillips Elementary, Ann Sexton of North Webster Lower Elementary, and Donnie Coleman of North Webster High were all recognized. Donnie Coleman was named the overall Support Person of the Year.

Lastly, the Principals of the Year were announced: Cortney McCall of Brown Upper Elementary for elementary, Nathaniel Richardson of Webster Jr High for junior high, and Denny Finley of Lakeside High for high school.

Congratulations to all the recipients for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the Webster Parish School system.
