The No. 11 seed Glenbrook Apaches’ season came to an end with a 5-0 loss to No. 6 Riverside Academy in the second round of the select Division IV playoffs Thursday in Reserve.

District 1-1A champion Glenbrook, whose lineup includes no seniors, finished 17-15 in Holden Orgeron’s first season as head coach. Riverside Academy improved to 21-10.

“What. A. Year. So proud of these guys for battling through adversity all season and finding ways to win games,” Orgeron wrote in a Facebook post. “Not the finish we wanted, but we definitely have some momentum going into next year. It’s very rare for a team to have everyone coming back, but luckily for us, we do, plus some. The future is bright, and I’m blessed to have a front row seat.”

The Apaches stayed within striking distance but didn’t have an answer for Riverside pitcher Jayce Ruiz. He pitched a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts and one walk,

Glenbrook got another solid performance from freshman pitcher Brayden Watkins, who allowed  three hits, struck out five and walked four in four innings. Noah Martin, who had the Apaches’ hit, struck out five in two innings of relief.

The Rebels scored two runs in the bottom of the second on a walk, hit-by-pitch, error and single.

It remained a two-run game until the Rebels added three in the bottom of the sixth.

Riverside’s Brady  Vicknair went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
