Whatever Happens in the Dark always comes to Light

by Minden Press-Herald

The number one thing I said to my kids as they were growing up was, “Whatever happens in the dark always comes to light. So be careful.”

When kids are growing up they will tell a fib at one time or another.  Most moms can tell when their kids are lying.

Kids, you should know that when your mom asks you a question, 99 percent of the time she already knows the answer and she is waiting to see if you own up to it.  In some cases, we moms might not know the full story, but it always comes to pass one day or another.

I started saying this to my kids early on and they can tell you to this day if you ask them, “What did your mom always tell you?”  In fact, I still use the saying today — not only with my kids, but others also.

I believe adults also need to hear, “Whatever happens in the dark always comes to light.”  They tend to be sneaky at times and think that if no one sees what they covered up it doesn’t matter.  Some things are revealed right away and other things take time.  It can take years to surface but mark my words, it will come to light.

When you hide things in the dark, it causes you stress, anxiety, and sleepless nights.  God already knows what happened so you might as well confess and move on.

Hiding things can get you into more trouble than if you just came right out with it in the first place.

I remember growing up my parents would say, “tell the truth now and you won’t get in as much trouble.  If I find out later you were lying you will be in much more trouble.”

I can’t say I have never told a lie in my life or did anything in the dark, but it has been a long time.  I am a honest person and tell it like it is to a fault at times.

What has your mama always said, ”If you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say it.”

I am going to be kind as I can be. But, don’t ask me to tell you the truth if you are not ready to hear it.

Sometimes being quiet is the best thing you can do. We all fall short every day of our lives.  It is how we handle it that counts.

It would be wise to go to bed each night with a clear conscience by asking forgiveness. The, you will wake up fresh and ready to conquer another day.  No one is perfect and never will be.  Our goal each day should be to live our lives to the fullest.  Love hard and forgive often.  Let God handle the rest.
